Week 8: Not so Green anymore!!!:D

Family and Friends!:)

I made it to my 2nd transfer and I am still alive and breathing!:D I have learned so much and become such a better person just in the past 2 months! I can't wait to keep growing and learning with the help of the Lord. Here are Momma's questions for the week:

1.) When was your zone conference and how was it?

It was a week and a half ago and it was so good! I told you one of my favorite quotes was from my AZ elder (who goes home like any day now:( ), Elder Marley,...."It's not prideful! It's true!" I learned so much though! So good!:)

2.) Are you guys getting any of those huge snow storms that we're hearing about in the east?

Not yet.....gulp......

3.) How are Virginie, Steven, and the Vanegas' doing? Any other investigators?

Viginie is doing great! We are still teaching here and she just LOVES us and we LOVE her and Julia! They always hate when we have to leave and she bought us dinner last time we went over for a lesson just so we could stay longer!;)

Steven is ON FIRE! Me and Sister Nelson are putting him on date next lesson (tomorrow). He came to church and LOVED it! He told us he loves how family oriented the church is and how welcome he felt! He is so open to learning and has so much faith!

The Vanegas'.....just pray for them....we have a lesson tonight and we aren't sure what's going to happen. They are really struggling.

And then we taught Abe and Hun yesterday! They are from China and Abe has so much faith! Abe is the dad and Hun is his 13 year old son! We taught them the restoration yesterday and when I asked Abe if he believes that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ could appear to a 14 year old boy he said, "Yes." with like not even a moment of hesitation. He has so much faith! I love it! They are planning on coming to church this next week!

4.) Service this week?

Just a butt load of finding! But it's so fun!:) Love it!

5.) Have you been able to go to the temple yet? When do you think you'll go?

Nope...:( And I have no idea! We are allowed to go once every 6 months but it is hard to coordinate! Treasure your time at the temple because you are sooooo lucky! I miss it so much!

6.) If you & Sister Nelson had a motto or quote or funny name or something.....what would it be?

"Suck eggs"....Bahahaha! Don't ask!;)

7.) Ponderize scripture:

2 Nephi 2! I love how much it talks about the atonement! I can't even express to you how much my testimony of the atonement has grown on my mission! I am so beyond grateful I will never even be able to express it!<3 I hope serving a mission is showing the Lord just an ounce of my gratitude.

Well I love you all and thank you for sending me some AZ sun! Michigan needs some for sure!:)

Week 7: Even Colder Weather!!!

Hey Family and Friends!:)

This week has been freezing! I went finding in 12 degree F weather. That is an adventure for sure! All I can say is that the Lord really blesses his servants!:) And this week has been rough. Our investigators are struggling and having a rough time and finding has been hard. I'm not going to sugar coat it. BUT! I know that this church is true. Hard times make us stronger and I love that I get to share what makes me so happy with my brothers and sisters in Michigan! I know that if you are ever going through a rough time that the Lord knows and hears your prayers. He loves you and is there for you! That is because he is our father and wants us to return to live with him someday! Sorry I don't have much time to write today! I love you all and hope you are having a great week!

P.S. One of my favorite quotes from zone conference was from my good old friend, Elder Marley, (he is from AZ too and goes home soon): "It's not prideful! It's true!" (Relating to the church.)

Week 6: BAPTISMS AND BURRRSSS!!!

Oh my goosness!!! I asked Virginie if she would be baptized our last lesson and GUESS WHAT SHE SAID?! "ABSOLUTELY!!!" I ABOUT CRIED, SCREAMED, LAUGHED, JUMPED UP AND DOWN, PEED MY PANTS, I WAS ON CLOUD 9! President Jacobsen came to our district meeting on Wednesday (no pressure....ha!) and made me promise I would put her on date. So I promised and man that was on my mind almost the whole lesson. It was seriously making my heart beat so fast because when I say yes to a promise, I keep it! So I just trusted the Lord, the Spirit was there and strong, and I asked. It was amazing. I will never forget that moment, especially because it was my first, official baptism invitation on my mission. Sister Jacobsen even came to the lesson (her & President are in our ward) because she LOVES Virginie and had a cool Mormon message video to show her. Anyways, she set the date for April 6th (her birthday, Christ's birthday, and the restoration of the church day), so that is pretty special! Me and Sister Nelson are hoping she will move it up seeing as she is progressing so well. She comes to church and I just love her! I want to go to France and stay with her someday!<3

Here are dad's questions for the week (he felt left out and wanted a turn....hahaha!;))

1.) What do you do, or what are the rules, when the temp drops below a certain degree and you don't have a car or you can't go outside?

We are usually always in our apartments by 6 pm. We don't go finding after that time. It's too dark and cold. Plus, it's just not safe. But if we have lessons or member dinners/appointments we usually just get a ride from members. They are pretty awesome about it. Or we pray and walk. (Haha. If you want me to be totally honest.) There are streets that I have walked here that if I weren't a missionary, I would probably be scared out of my mind. But I have always felt safe and protected. And honestly, that doesn't happen often. So no worries, Daddio!

2.) How big are your ward boundaries? How do they compare with the ones at home?

The wards and stake areas are bigger/further apart here than AZ for sure. But that's just the Midwest for you. Our area is East Lansing though and it is probably only a couple square miles wide. The zone leaders in our ward take the rest of Lansing and those two areas make up our ward.

3.) When are your zone conferences and have you had one yet?

My first one is this Thursday!:) I am excited! Sister Nelson says it is her first one too which is weird because she has been out for 4 months.

4.) What have been your biggest successes this week? Your challenges?

Virginie is a HUGE success and then this other investigator named Steven. He is solid! He is in his late 30's, he's Latino, and lives alone with his dog Chewey (yes, that's from Star Wars and yes he looks like Chubaca...haha!) Steven reminds me and Sister Nelson of George Lopez. Personality and all! But he was telling us he has a couple members of his family who are LDS and he is really interested! He had so many questions about the restoration and Book of Mormon and he was totally eating all of our words up. The Spirit was really strong. I even started crying because he was telling us how lonely he gets. He sometimes just turns on the TV to have background noise. It broke my heart. So I cried as I was testifying that he has a loving Heavenly Father who is there for him and a new ward family now too. He was so excited and sweet and his story is just amazing! I wish I had more time to tell you more! He couldn't come to church yesterday because of family commitments, but he is coming next week! And we have two more lessons with him this week! I just love, Steven. He is a special man and his spirit is strong. He even told us he would be baptized if he came to know for himself that these things are true. So cool!

My challenges are I think I am getting sick.....not fun! I thought I was off the hook, but nope! Just taking a lot of Emergen-C and I get to take a long nap later today which I am stoked about!:) I really am fine! Just tired and have a cough and gross nose! That's what Michigan winters do to you!

5.) Are you gaining more confidence in teaching and sharing?

Yes! More each and every day! Because the Spirit does the teaching if you testify and do your part as a missionary! I have learned that a lot on my mission!:)

6.) If you could give any hints to the ward members for missionary service, what would it be?

Offer to serve your missionaries. Give them rides, invite them over for dinner, give them referrals, go to lessons with them. They are working so hard and you will be blessed if you serve the Lord's servants. And the missionaries will appreciate it beyond belief! You best believe that is what I will be doing when I get home!;)

7.) Now that you're in the field, what advice would you give your friends to better prepare for their missions?

Read the Book of Mormon every day, pray, go out with the missionaries, do EVERYTHING you can do to build your testimony of Jesus Christ. Because missions aren't easy, and if you can learn to rely on your Savior and his atonement, it is so much easier to get through the hard times. And so much more fun when you have good times because you know it is because of Jesus Christ!:)

8.) Who can we pray for?

Virginie and Steven please! That they will keep progressing and building their testimony of Jesus Christ! And then the Venagus family. They are the sweetest Latino family! They invite us to dinner and we are actually teaching them tonight. It is just hard because they have some rough family situations. They are struggling with building a strong foundation of the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith. So that would be awesome if you could keep them all in your prayers!

9.) Ponderize scripture?

Mosiah 5:8! I have thought a lot about baptism this week since we have invited our investigators to be baptized and how it is our first promise that we make with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Reflect on your baptismal covenants and what they mean to you! You promised the Lord 3 things and he promised you 3 things in return! Do you remember? If not, I challenge you to study that this week and how you can remember your promises that you made at baptism as you go throughout day to day life! It has meant so much more to me this week and on my mission to know that because I am baptized I am one step closer to living with my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ someday.

I love you all! Thanks for everything you do! The letters, packages, emails, prayers, support, etc! I hope you have a warm week (because we all know that's not happening here! Haha!) Send me some warmth! Love you more than you know!

This is Nightmare. He's my friend. He is black and orange. And he made me happy on a rough finding day.:) (The pic looks like I am sweating but I am not. Bad quality! Sorry! Haha!)

This is what we have had the WONDERFUL blessing to walk in on a daily basis.(Catch my sarcasm?!;) The snow finally hit Michigan hard on Saturday night. It really is pretty! But a pain!

Super blurry! But it was freezing! And I didn't take that many pictures this week because we were so busy! Sorry! This is the last one!

Week 5: Ice Storms and #mishlife! Hahaha!:)

Hey family and friends!:D (First off, I put week 3 on last week's email...it was actually 4...sorry! Haha! Mission life.....)

Can you believe it is 2016?! Craziness! This is the only year I have fully in my mission so I am trying to make it count!:) Part of our Michigan Lansing Mission Statement is, "We work with all our heart, might, mind, and strength." and I am definitely implying that into my missionary work! Never a dull moment, never a break, but that's the best part about missionary work! It's not about you! Here's momma's questions for the week:

1.) What does your average P-day consist of?

P-days are actually more crazy I feel like than normal days! We have SO MUCH to get done! Not enough time in the day! But me and Sister Nelson usually clean our apartment Sunday evenings, so we have more time for other things on Monday. We actually wake up at 6 (the struggle is real), even earlier than normal days because we go grocery shopping in the morning. Then we do personal and companion study while our laundry is getting done. (Today we went to another apartment complex to do it because it was FREE!;)) Then we come email at the library and then go out and do fun things with our district! Last Monday was Sis.Nelson's and Elder Dorrough's birthday (both in our district) and we had a blast! I made brownies and we had a "party" at the stake center with our zone! Everyone LOVED my gluten and dairy free brownies by the way!;) But we have also gone rollerblading, went to eat at Olive Garden, played basketball and volleyball, and today we are going ice skating!:) I love my district and they are for sure family! I still miss my MTC district like crazy, but now I just have even more family! So that is our crazy P-day! And then at 6 pm it is like a regular day again (back to proselyting).

2.) So how are your lessons going with McKenzie? Other investigators? Who can we pray for?

Oh, McKenzie.....we had such a great lesson with her and the Spirit was so strong but she told us at the end of the lesson that she wasn't interested in converting.....SO she pretty much looked at it like a history lesson. Keep praying for her though! Maybe a miracle will happen. We did tell her to read and pray about the Book of Mormon. But she also doesn't know if she believes in God so we told her to pray about that too. BUT we had one of our other investigators, Virginie, come to church yesterday! She is from France and is going to MSU and I love her! She has a 3 year old named Julia and they are the sweetest! We have had a couple lessons with her and have another one on Friday! She is working really hard on her testimony and has made some awesome improvements! (No longer drinking, we still have to work on coffee and tea though). I can't wait for what the future holds for this beautiful, young mom! So prayers for her too please!

3.) How are your dinner appointments going? Still getting enough to eat?

Dinner appointments....what are those? Ha! We get maybe one or two a week if we are lucky! The holiday weeks are awesome, but it is kind of blank now! That's ok though because we have LOTS of yummy, healthy food from shopping this morning! And we are contacting lots of members for lessons, so they offer to feed us sometimes then too! But I am for sure taking care of myself! And I never go hungry! Heavenly Father for sure blesses us missionaries! I am so grateful!

4.) How have you spiritually grown this past week?

I have had the question and fear this week of, "How do people (strong members) ever fall way from the church?" That has been a worry of mine this week so I studied up on it and Heavenly Father gave me a great answer during personal study! And that is if we ARE NOT reading the Book of Mormon our faith is NOT growing and we will fall away. If not all the way, then our faith will for sure decrease. So how do we fix that? Read the Book of Mormon EVERY DAY! It is so important and you will come unto Christ so much! "Reading, pondering, and praying about the Book of Mormon is CRITICAL for an enduring conversion." (Preach My Gospel, page 38) I strongly testify that the Book of Mormon is our conversion story into the church in these latter days! Never stop reading it!

5.) Are you and Sister Nelson working well together? Finding your "groove" yet?

We are STELLAR at teaching together, but we are still working on being like sisters and best friends. It came super naturally with me and Sister Sheppard, but it is different with me and Sister Nelson! We totally love each other and have fun, but we are still working on some things! I love her though and she is a great "mom"! She has helped me a lot and taught me even more!<3:)

6.) I'm kinda afraid to ask...but any blonde moments this week?

ALWAYS! ;D Sister Nelson saw a plane the other day when we were out finding and asked, "How far away do you think that plane is?" And I started to say, "About a mile." when she interrupted me and said, "17 months." Ha.....so funny....I may have punched her.;) Also we went to Kroger this morning and it says "Food and Drugs" under the sign and I said, "This is my kind of store!" and our car busted up laughing. There are so many I can't really remember them! Haha!:)

7.) A good ponderize scripture?

1 Nephi 7:11-12! Love it! Don't ever forget what the Lord has done for you!

Anyways, I am surviving the FREEZING winter here! Dang! It just gets colder! And we had an ice storm on Sister Nelson's and Elder Dorrough's birthday so that was kind of sad. We just stayed at the stake center because we had no car and it was scary outside. All is well though because we have a car this week! Happy Day! Never take your stinkin' cars for granted. I might bite your head off if you do! Haha! I love you all and thank you for the constant prayers, love, and support! My challenge to you is to Read the Book of Mormon EVERY DAY! No matter how much! I promise it will bless your life, but more importantly Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have promised you that! Until next week!:) See you next year!!!;D
